Jepsen riding scoreless streak in return from DL

ANAHEIM -- Since returning from the disabled list, Angels reliever Kevin Jepsen has thrown 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five.

Jepsen, who was out with a strained triceps, had allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings of work prior to his injury.

A few days ago, manager Mike Scioscia said he thought Jepsen's velocity has increased, not only from the beginning of the season, but from 2012 as well.

Jepsen simply believes the better numbers are the result of his health and mechanics.

"At the beginning of the year, it was keeping me from getting extended," Jepsen said of his injury. "Now, with no pain, I'm able to get that fastball down and away to a righty. Everything is out front, so I can spin my breaking ball, I can spin my curveball. I'm able to throw all my pitches right now and it feels good. It's relieving to go out there and throw all your pitches."

However, the right-hander does not completely dismiss the notion that his velocity may be a tick higher than it used to be.

"At the beginning of the year, my [velocity] was down with the injury, it was keeping me from throwing the way I need to throw," Jepsen said. "But right now, I don't know what my [velocity] was last year, they probably have a better idea than I do. Maybe I am [throwing harder]."
