Remy to work 100 games for NESN in '16

Network will at times use three-man broadcast booth

BOSTON -- NESN announced that color analyst Jerry Remy will be back for a 29th season after signing a new agreement that will have him work at least 100 Red Sox games per season.

The news of Remy's return will be comforting for many viewers after the departure of play-by-play man Don Orsillo, who will call games for the San Diego Padres beginning in 2016.

"NESN and the Red Sox have been very good to me over the years, and I hope to continue for a long period of time what I consider to be the best job in the world of broadcasting," Remy said. "I also look forward to welcoming my new play-by-play partner Dave O'Brien to the NESN team."

NESN will work in Dennis Eckersley and Steve Lyons for several games, giving Remy a rest at times.

And in a new twist, the network will at times go with a three-man broadcast team, with play-by-play man O'Brien working with different combinations between Remy, Eckersley and Lyons.

"We're very excited about our expanded broadcast booth composition for next year," said NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail. "This will be the most in-depth and dynamic lineup we've ever had in our history, providing Red Sox fans a greater diversity of perspective and analysis."

A native of Somerset, Mass., Remy played second base for the Red Sox from 1978-84.

Without any previous broadcasting experience, Remy started his career as the club's analyst on NESN in 1988, working at the time with the legendary Ned Martin.

Over time, Remy became a popular voice in living rooms throughout New England, thanks to his ability to combine concise analysis with large doses of humor.

"Jerry remains one of the most beloved color analysts in all of baseball," NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail said. "We are thrilled to have him continue as the cornerstone of our broadcast. His insights and perspective on the Red Sox organization and the players make him one of the best analysts in the game."
