KANSAS CITY, Mo, June 22, 2012 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to their series opener in Kansas City that they have activated both Jon Jay and Matt Carpenter from the 15-day disabled list.  To make room for Jay and Carpenter's additions to the team's 25-man roster, the team optioned first baseman Matt Adams and outfielder Adron Chambers to Memphis (AAA).

Jay had been on the disabled list since May 16, missing 35 games.  He batted .429 (3-for-7) with a homer, triple and 3 RBI in his two-game injury rehabilitation stint with Memphis.  The left-handed hitting outfielder was batting .343 with 2 homers, 8 RBI and 4 stolen bases in 27 games to begin the 2012 season for St. Louis.

Matt Carpenter enjoyed a 3-for-3 game with a homer and 3 RBI for Springfield (AA) last night, concluding his injury rehabilitation assignment. He appeared in three games with Memphis and two games with Springfield during his rehabilitation from a right oblique strain that forced him to miss 27 games after being disabled on May 23.  The left-handed hitting Carpenter was batting .288 with 3 homers and 20 RBI in 39 games played at the time of his injury and he had manned first base in 18 of his 24 games started.
