Schoop likely headed to Frederick for more rehab

BALTIMORE -- Second baseman Jonathan Schoop continues to work out in Baltimore with the Orioles, and he will likely finish up his rehab assignment at nearby Class A Advanced Frederick.

O's manager Buck Showalter said Schoop will play "a couple days" for Frederick and probably won't start that portion of his rehab until Thursday. Schoop has been sidelined since mid-April with a right knee injury and his pending return -- his rehab ends Friday -- presents a bit of a roster crunch.

"He can be optioned to a lot of [Minor League affiliates] there for us," Showalter said. "Jonathan will benefit from every day he can get, keeping that knee that much stronger. It's a pretty significant injury. But we feel like Jon, if we had to, could be activated, but he'd also benefit from playing in the Minor Leagues."
