Kahnle returns from DL as Rox add reinforcements

DENVER -- As expected following his successful live bullpen session on Saturday, Rockies right-hander Tommy Kahnle was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Kahnle missed 25 games while dealing with right shoulder inflammation. Before being placed on the DL on Aug. 16, the Rockies' Rule 5 Draft selection from the Yankees was 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA in his first season in the Majors.

Despite the time off, Kahnle's 63 innings pitched still lead all Rockies relievers. Kahnle has also struck out the second most batters among Rockies relievers at 65, compared to just 16 walks.

In addition to activating Kahnle, the Rockies also recalled first baseman/outfielder Kyle Parker and right-hander Rob Scahill from Triple-A Colorado Springs. This will be the third stints with the Rockies this season for both Parker and Scahill.

Parker, the Rockies' No. 8 ranked prospect according to MLB.com, has hit .289 (145-for-502) with 30 doubles, 15 home runs, 72 RBIs and 73 runs scored in 128 games at the Triple-A level this season.

Parker hasn't had many opportunities for extended playing time with the Rockies since making his Major League debut earlier this season. In five games, the former first-round pick is 1-for-9 with five strikeouts.

Scahill has pitched to the tune of a 5.68 ERA (6 1/3 innings, four earned runs) across four games with the Rockies in 2014. In 33 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs, Scahill owns a 2-0 record and a 4.47 ERA across 48 1/3 innings pitched.

"It's good to have the reinforcements and be able to look at these guys for the last month of the season," manager Walt Weiss said. "September always makes for an interesting time."
