Gibson challenged, and after review, the call was overturned.
"I asked Trumbo, and he said he thought he got in there," Gibson said. "It looked like it to me."
The ruling paid off for the D-backs. After a single by center fielder Ender Inciarte, left fielder David Peralta drove in Trumbo with a single to right field to give the D-backs a 3-1 lead. The run proved crucial, as the Cubs scored what otherwise would have been the tying run off of Brad Ziegler in the eighth inning.
"It worked out, and we scrapped that run out pretty good, and it turned out to be a big run," Gibson said.
Gibson is 11-for-20 on replay challenges this season.
