Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation and the Miami Marlins Announce "Back to School" Program

Thousands of School Supplies will be distributed to Elementary School Students -- Project kick off: THURSDAY, August 16 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Marlins Ballpark

Miami, FL – The Back to School Caravan that begins the first day of the new school year will distribute thousands of school supplies to low income students giving them a boost from the very start.   Each student will receive a backpack containing 4 pencils, 4 notebooks, 3 folders, safety scissors, glue stick, crayons, ruler, color markers, composition book and filler paper.

The effort will be launched on THURSDAY, August 16 from 5:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. from Marlins Ballpark (501 Marlins Way, Miami, FL, West Plaza), where children from the Little Havana area, San Juan Bosco Learning Center and the Institute for Child & Family Health will receive backpacks replete with school supplies.   

The following is the schedule of the Back to School Caravan where Kiwanis together with the Marlins team, Billy the Marlin, students and teachers will be present:

Monday, August 20 – 9:30 AM

Citrus Grove Elementary - 2121 N.W. 5 Street

Tuesday, August 21

9:00 AM – Comstock Elementary – 2420 N.W. 18 Avenue

11:00 AM – Auburndale Elementary (special children) – 3255 S.W. 6 Street

1:00 PM – Orchard Villa Elementary – 5720 N.W. 13 Avenue

Wednesday, August 22

9:00 AM – Thena Crowder – 757 N.W. 66 Street

10:00 AM – St. Mary’s Cathedral – 7485 N.W. 2 Avenue

11:30 AM – Olinda Elementary – 5536 N.W. 21 Avenue

Since 1991, the Kiwanis of Little Havana has been distributing school supplies to students.  “the Back to School program is a main project of our organization and we remain steadfast to the mission of nurturing future leaders and productive citizens through education; leading the way to a brighter tomorrow” states Eugenio Hernandez, Chairman of the Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation. 

“We enjoy welcoming the students to the new school year making sure they attend school well prepared and motivated to learn” adds Henry Jimenez, President of the club. 

“The Marlins are proud to continue this special Back to School tradition,” said Alfredo Mesa, Executive Director of the Marlins Foundation. “This is a special tradition that will continue to grow at Marlins Park.”
