Parker rounding into form after 4-RBI game

DENVER -- Rockies rookie outfielder Kyle Parker vows not to be distracted by his volatile early-career batting average, which is displayed big as life on the scoreboard each at-bat.

Parker ignored the .233 at the start of Saturday's game. After a big night -- a three-run triple and an RBI double in a 14-9 loss to the Mets at Coors -- he'll make himself do the same when the board flashes .250 next time he's batting.

"No matter if you succeed in your previous at-bats or fail, it's a new slate every time," Parker said.

Parker, 25, the team's top pick in the 2010 Draft, waited until Aug. 1 for his first extended shot at playing time, after a long Minor League apprenticeship. With Corey Dickerson out with broken ribs, Parker has started 13 games, with 11 starts in Dickerson's left field position and two at first base. He demonstrated his increasing comfort level Saturday.

Parker's second-inning, bases-clearing triple off Mets starter Jon Niese tied the game at 3, before the Mets erupted against Rockies starter Chris Rusin for eight third-inning runs. Parker added the RBI double in the seventh off Carlos Torres.

"I'm just feeling in control at the plate, having a visual reference of what's going to happen," Parker said. "It's being able to picture pitches and situations. Being in situations allows me to draw back on that."

Said Rockies manager Walt Weiss: "It was a big hit at the time, a three-run triple. He's getting somewhat consistent at-bats and he's handled himself pretty well so far."
