On Tommy Lasorda: "The thing that separates successful managers from others is the ability to get their guys in the clubhouse to believe in them and basically to run through a wall for them, and Tommy was that guy."

On baseball broadcasters: "What makes a good color man? A great play-by-play man. Really…a play-by-play man can make the color guy look great or just absolutely make him look horrendous."

On steroids: "I would say I was tempted, but I was so scared to do it that I didn't...If I would have been the 24th or 25th guy on the team, where [it's] the difference between playing in Albuquerque or the Dodgers, or I'm not a starter…I can't sit here and say that I wouldn't have done it or tried it. I can't."
