Local standouts selected to be new Phillies Ballgirls, presented by Macy’s

Final 2012 Phillies Ballgirl roster announced

From biochemistry experts to star athletes, eight new area standouts have been added to the Phillies Ballgirls presented by Macy’s 2012 roster.

The new Phillies Ballgirls were selected by the Phillies after an intense tryout process, which included testing the candidates’ softball skills and speed, as well as interpersonal skills and baseball knowledge.

The final Phillies Ballgirl position, however, was selected by thousands of fans during a one-week voting opportunity on phillies.com, where visitors were able to view biographies and video of the top three candidates up for the final position. Leigh Ann Costanzo from Philadelphia received the top votes – and won the coveted position.

“There were so many qualified candidates this year,” said Michele DeVicaris, Manager for the Phillies Ballgirls. “It was not an easy decision, but we know that the young women who have been selected will serve as tremendous role models both on and off the field.”
