LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers manager Don Mattingly confirmed Wednesday that Carlos Frias and Scott Baker, both part of Triple-A Oklahoma City's starting rotation a week ago, would be the Dodgers' starting pitchers Friday and Saturday against Arizona.

The moves are necessitated by injuries to third and fourth starters Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy. Ryu is expected to be out another month with a left shoulder impingement, while McCarthy will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday and be sidelined until mid-2016.

Frias has appeared twice in relief for the Dodgers this month without allowing a run in 2 1/3 innings. He was called up last year to be a swingman and made two contrasting starts, throwing six scoreless innings against Washington on Sept. 3, but lasting only two-thirds of an inning at Coors Field two weeks later when he was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits.

Baker earned this start with a quality spot start Sunday in San Diego, allowing three runs on four hits in seven innings of a 3-1 loss.
