Annual food drive scheduled for Saturday, June 16, vs. San Francisco Giants

The Seattle Mariners are once again joining with 97.3KIRO FM and Northwest Harvest for the annual food and donations drive at Safeco Field known as Fight Hunger Night.

On Saturday, June 16, when the Mariners take on the San Francisco Giants, volunteers will be outside all the entrances to the ballpark accepting donations of cash and non-perishable food items starting at 5:00 p.m. Game time vs. the Giants is 7:10 p.m. Donations are also being accepted online at www.northwestharvest.org, or you can give now by texting "ENDHUNGER" to 80888 to make a $10 donation to Northwest Harvest (the charge will be added to your phone bill).

Suggested donations include oatmeal, whole grain pasta, canned vegetables, canned fruit, fish or meat, shelf-stable milk, baby formula, infant cereal, jarred baby food, powdered or canned milk.

Northwest Harvest provides nutritious food to hungry people across the state of Washington through a network of over 325 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. Through the network, Northwest Harvest provides over 1.6 million meals each month. With an eye on healthy eating for all, nearly two-thirds of all the food distributed by Northwest Harvest is fruits and vegetables.

As our nation continues its struggle out of the great recession, demand on Northwest Harvest has increased. Last year, the non-profit distributed over 25 million pounds of food, setting a single-year distribution record.

The agency does not receive government funding and relies on donations from individuals, businesses, foundations and other organizations. For more information about Northwest Harvest, or to donate, call 206-625-0755 or log onto www.northwestharvest.org.
