Mariners agree to terms with 13 players from 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft

Players agreeing to terms include first round selection 3B DJ Peterson

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Tom McNamara announced today that the club has agreed to terms with 13 players from the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, including:

Right-Handed Pitchers (4):

Emilio Pagan (10th), Kevin McCoy (24th), Ricky Claudio (27th), Rafael Pineda (30th)

Left-Handed Pitchers (2):

Tyler Olson (7th), Jacob Zokan (9th)

Infielders (4):

DJ Peterson (1st), Jack Reinheimer (5th), Justin Seager (12th), Jeff Zimmerman (19th)

Outfielders (3):

Tyler O'Neill (3rd), Corey Simpson (6th), Chantz Mack (30th)

"We are excited to get these players in uniform and to see all the young talent we recently drafted in action," Director of Amateur Scouting Tom McNamara said. 

Seattle has signed 13 of the team's first 30 picks, including 8 players in the first 12 rounds of the draft. Overall the Mariners have agreed to terms with 13 of the 40 players selected in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

Short-A Everett will begin action on Friday, June 14 at Spokane. The AquaSox will play an exhibition game tonight vs. the Everett Merchants. The Rookie Pulaski Mariners season gets under way Thursday, June 20 at Burlington, while the Rookie Peoria Mariners also begin play Thursday, June 20 at the AZL Padres.

The Mariners first round selection third baseman DJ Peterson from the University of New Mexico took batting practice with the team this afternoon (audio file is available for download at MarinersMedia.com).

Seattle selected 40 players in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, highlighted by their first pick, third baseman DJ Peterson, who was the 12th overall pick in the draft. The Mariners selected 16 pitchers, including 8 left-handers, 4 catchers, 14 infielders (3 1B, 4 3B, 7 SS), and 6 outfielders. Seattle selected 27 college players and 12 high school players (1 no school).

Seattle has until Friday, July 12 at 2 p.m. (PT) to sign players selected in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
