Mariners announce 2014 tentative regular season schedule

Season Opens at L.A. Angels March 31, Home Opener vs. Angels is April 8

The Seattle Mariners 2014 regular season begins on Monday, March 31, on the road against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels, according to the tentative schedule announced today. The Home Opener is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, also against the Angels. The Mariners play 22 of the first 25 games against American League West opponents.

The Mariners open on the road for the sixth consecutive season. The opening road trip includes:

  • Three games at Angels (March 31-April 2)
  • Four games at Oakland (April 3-6).

The five-game opening homestand includes:

  • Two games against the Angels (April 8-9)
  • Off-day
  • Three against the A's (April 11-13).

Interleague Play

During the 2014 season, the Mariners will play a total of 20 Interleague games. Match-ups with teams from the National League East at Safeco Field include a three-game series against the New York Mets (July 21-23), two games against the Atlanta Braves (August 5-6), and three against the Washington Nationals (August 29-31).

The Mariners also travel to Miami (April 18-20), Atlanta (June 3-4) and Philadelphia (August 19-21). The Mariners hook up with their designated rivals, the San Diego Padres, in back-to-back two-game series at Safeco Field (June 16-17) and at Petco Park (June 18-19).

The Mariners will play at home on Memorial Day (vs. the Angels) in the midst of an 11-game homestand, the longest of the season, with matchups against:

  • Houston Astros (Thursday, May 22-Sunday, May 25)
  • Los Angeles Angels (Monday, May 26-Thursday, May 29)
  • Detroit Tigers (Friday, May 30-Sunday, June 1).

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox make trips to Safeco Field in June with three games each (Yankees, June 10-12, Red Sox, June 23-25).

The busiest month at Safeco Field will be May, with 17 games.
