Mariners reach one-year deal with LoMo

The Mariners have avoided an arbitration hearing with outfielder/first baseman Logan Morrison after agreeing on a one-year contract for 2014.

The deal is worth $1.75 million, according to CBSSports.com, and includes $350,000 in incentives. The club announced the deal, but not the financial terms, on Tuesday afternoon.

Acquired in a trade with the Marlins in December, Morrison had filed for a $2.5 million salary, and the Mariners countered at $1.1 million.

Morrison, 26 and in his first year of arbitration eligibility, made $491,500 last season and hit .242/.333/.375 with six homers and 36 RBIs in 85 games, most of them at first base. He hit .247 with 23 homers and 72 RBIs as the Marlins' left fielder in 2011, but he was limited each of the past two seasons by a knee injury and a pair of surgeries.

With Morrison signed, first baseman Justin Smoak is the Mariners' only remaining arbitration-eligible player. According to The News Tribune, Smoak has asked for $3.25 million, and the Mariners offered $2.025 million.
