Mariners select Gareth Morgan with 74th Overall Pick in 2014 MLB Draft

Morgan was three-year member of Canadian Junior National Team.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Seattle Mariners selected outfielder Gareth Morgan from North York in Toronto (Ontario) Canada with their second selection (74th overall pick) in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, Director of Amateur Scouting Tom McNamara announced tonight.

Morgan, 18, is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder. He has played both right field and center field during his high school career.

Gareth is a member of the Canadian Junior National Team, and has also played with the Langley Blaze travel team.

The teams played games against professional minor league clubs in Florida and Arizona during spring training.

Morgan and the Canadian Junior National team recently returned from playing eight games against professional teams in the Dominican Summer League.

Morgan has signed a letter of intent with North Carolina State.

Earlier today, Seattle selected outfielder Alex Jackson with their first selection (6th overall pick).
