Mariners trade lefty Olson to Dodgers

SEATTLE -- Left-hander Tyler Olson was traded from the Mariners to the Dodgers for a player to be named or cash on Friday, two days after being designated for assignment by Seattle.

The 26-year-old made the Mariners' Opening Day roster last season after an outstanding spring, then went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 games as a reliever before going on the disabled list with a bruised right knee. He spent the rest of the year with Triple-A Tacoma, posting a 3-5 record and 4.47 ERA in 25 games, including six starts.

Olson was drafted by the Mariners in the seventh round out of Gonzaga University in 2013. He's put up a 17-17 record and 3.86 ERA in 70 games, including 41 starts, over three Minor League seasons.

Olson had been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for right-hander A.J. Schugel, who was claimed off waivers from the D-backs on Wednesday.
