Blue Jays flip-flop Buehrle, Price in rotation
TORONTO -- The Blue Jays made a minor adjustment to their starting rotation on Wednesday afternoon by deciding to switch Mark Buehrle and David Price in the order.
Buehrle was originally scheduled to pitch on Saturday afternoon against the Orioles, but instead he will get the call on Sunday. Price will take Buehrle's spot in the rotation, but he will be pitching on normal rest because of Thursday's off-day.
It appears as though the decision was primarily made to give Buehrle some additional rest between outings. Buehrle admitted last month that his body hasn't been feeling 100 percent, but also was quick to point out that's usually the case at this time of the year.
Buehrle surrendered nine runs over 10 innings in a pair of starts on Aug. 19 and 25. He bounced back with a quality outing against the Tigers on Sunday, but his velocity was down a little bit and the club is looking to find ways to keep him fresh down the stretch.
There is no concern about the possibility of a stint on the disabled list, but this is a way for the club to take advantage of a favorable schedule this week. Price gets to start on regular rest and will still face the division-rival Orioles this weekend.
