Marlins acquire pitching prospect for bonus slots

CHICAGO -- The Marlins have traded two international bonus pool picks, totaling $500,000, to the Rays for 22-year-old right-hander Enderson Franco, who is being assigned to Class A Greensboro.

The Franco transaction is part of the early international moves by the Marlins, who announced on Friday the signings of nine players.

Franco, pitching at Class A Bowling Green in the Rays system, was 5-6 (3.89) in 71 2/3 innings, will join the Greensboro rotation.

The international signing period opened on Thursday.

Six of Miami's announced signings are from the Dominican Republic -- outfielder Mario Prensa, left-hander Edison Suriel, shortstops Juan Urena and Emanuel Rodriguez and right-handers Rainer Rodriguez and Edward Cabrera.

Three are from Venezuela -- outfielders Jose Vilera and Wilkerman Ruskin, and catcher Luis Alcaya.
