Ramos fine after injury scare vs. Phillies

MIAMI -- A.J. Ramos, one of Miami's main setup relievers, received a minor injury scare in the sixth inning of Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Phillies at Marlins Park.

The right-hander landed awkwardly after throwing a fastball that resulted in a lineout by Cesar Hernandez to left field. Marlins trainer Sean Cunningham and pitching coach Chuck Hernandez made a mound visit.

Ramos threw a warmup pitch, and remained in the game.

"He planted wrong," manager Mike Redmond said. "He felt like a tweak in his neck or something. But he checked out, and he's fine."

Ramos faced one more batter, and on his sixth pitch, retired Cameron Rupp on a lineout to third base to end the inning.

"I stepped wrong," Ramos said. "It's one of those things, maybe overthrowing, but it's good."

Ramos' velocity was 93 mph during his sequence with Rupp.

Ramos has been one of Miami's most effective relievers. The right-hander leads the team in appearances with 13 and he has 20 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings.

"It was tight and tingling," Ramos said. "It's good now, but it was just tight."
