Mono keeps Marlins draftee Naylor sidelined

No. 12 overall pick is recovering in Florida, will miss another week

MIAMI -- Josh Naylor, selected 12th overall by the Marlins in the 2015 MLB Draft, is expected to miss about another week as he recovers from a bout of mononucleosis.

The 18-year-old from Canada, last played for the Gulf Coast League Marlins on June 11, before he was sidelined due to the illness.

Naylor, a left-handed-hitting first baseman, is recovering in Florida, and he is expected back by the end of the month.

In his first seven professional games, Naylor has showed plenty of promise. He is 10-for-30 (.333) with one double.

Naylor impressed with his power and is considered a pure hitter, which is why Miami selected him higher than many in the industry projected.
