Garcia to represent Marlins in Futures Game

MIAMI -- Jarlin Garcia, a promising left-hander for Class A Advanced Jupiter, is about to perform on a global stage. The 22-year-old has been selected to represent the Marlins in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Great American Ball Park.

Garcia will be on the World team that squares off against the United States.

The 17th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game takes place at 3 p.m. ET on July 12, and it can be seen live on MLB Network and, with Matt Vasgersian, Dan Plesac, Heidi Watney and Jonathan Mayo on the call. In addition, SiriusXM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on MLB Network Radio (XM channel 89; Sirius channel 209). will also provide complete coverage before, during and after the game. Ranked by as the Marlins' No. 5 prospect, Garcia is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA in 13 starts with Jupiter. The lefty from the Dominican Republic was an international free-agent signing in 2010.

"A lot of guys think he's going to be a great Major League pitcher," said vice president of player development Marty Scott. "I hope they're right."

Garcia possesses a low-to-mid 90s mph fastball, and a quality breaking ball.

"He doesn't throw anything straight," Scott said. "Everything moves. Good mound presence."

In his Minor League career, Garcia is 20-18 with a 3.66 ERA in 79 games with 65 starts.

At Class A Greensboro in 2014, Garcia was 10-5 (4.38).

"He did well last year in Greensboro, and he's just progressing up the ladder," Scott said.
