Right-hander Urena optioned to Triple-A

MIAMI -- After making seven starts in his second stint with Miami this season, Marlins rookie right-hander Jose Urena was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans prior to Thursday afternoon's contest against the Giants because of the return of ace Jose Fernandez.

Urena (1-4, 4.04 ERA) made two relief appearances in April before being sent down. He was then called back up on May 26, joined the rotation and earned his first Major League victory on June 12 against Colorado.

The 23-year-old went six or more innings in four starts from June 1-17, allowing seven earned runs in 24 2/3 innings.

Urena closed out the month by going five innings in consecutive starts. He surrendered three earned runs against the Cardinals on June 23, before allowing one earned run against the Dodgers on Sunday.

With the return of Fernandez, the Marlins' rotation also consists of Tom Koehler, Jarred Cosart, Mat Latos and Dan Haren for the time being.
