Angels sign Lindstrom to Minor League contract
Righty reliever also nabs Spring Training invite
ANAHEIM -- The Angels signed veteran reliever and former closer Matt Lindstrom to a Minor League contract with a Spring Training invitation on Tuesday.
Lindstrom struggled through a 5.03 ERA in 35 appearances with the White Sox last year, a season that saw him miss 73 games after undergoing surgery on his left ankle in May.
From 2007-13, the 35-year-old hard-throwing right-hander posted a 3.56 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP while walking 3.3 batters per nine innings, striking out 7.2 and recording 45 saves for the Marlins, Astros, Rockies, Orioles, D-backs and White Sox.
The Lindstrom addition gives the Angels 63 players in Major League camp, which begins in Tempe, Ariz., on Thursday. Lindstrom is one of seven non-roster relievers invited, along with right-handers Trevor Gott, Frank Herrmann and Ryan Mattheus, and lefties Scott Snodgress, Edgar Ibarra and Atahualpa Severino.
