Minor Leaguer Bernard suspended 50 games

Right-handed pitcher already serving 62-game ban

MILWAUKEE -- Mets Minor League right-handed pitcher Derrick Bernard has received a 50-game suspension without pay following a second positive test for a drug of abuse, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday. Because Bernard is already serving a 62-game performance-enhancing-drug suspension, his new one will not begin until that one ends.

Bernard, 23, last appeared for the rookie-level Gulf Coast Mets in 2014, posting a 3.86 ERA over six appearances. He signed with the Mets as a non-drafted player last June, two months before testing positive for nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance.
