Bucs hire vet Mangan to amateur scouting team

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates on Friday announced the hiring of Mike Mangan as their assistant director of amateur scouting.

Before joining the Pirates, Mangan had been with the Blue Jays since 1999, when he served as their east regional scouting supervisor. Mangan became Toronto's national crosschecker in 2000 and held that role until he left the organization.

Prior to his time in Toronto, Mangan was a scout for the Reds from 1994-98.

The Pirates lost two prominent members of their front office earlier this fall, when Marc DelPiano and Jim Benedict joined the Marlins. In their place, the Pirates promoted pro scout Ron Hopkins and national supervisor Matt Ruebel to the role of special assistant to general manager Neal Huntington.
