Olt's off-balance throw gets an out after review

CHICAGO -- Let's call White Sox third baseman Mike Olt's defensive effort in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's 5-3 loss in 10 innings to the Royals a little bit of awkward excellence.

Alex Rios opened the frame with a hard grounder down the third-base line, which Olt gloved, but knocked to his right. In one basic motion, Olt picked up the ball and threw off-balance across the infield with a toss that was caught by Jose Abreu on one hop.

The original call by first-base umpire Chris Conroy gave Rios an infield single. But video replay overturned it and gave Olt the assist on the putout.
