Bianchi, Gennett help their cause with RBI doubles

Estrada throws 5 2/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Jeff Bianchi had a two-run double and pitcher Marco Estrada threw 5 2/3 shutout innings as the Brewers defeated the Padres, 8-0, Thursday at the Peoria Sports Complex.

San Diego pitcher Josh Johnson, making his third start of the spring, allowed one run in four innings and had three strikeouts.

"I thought he threw the ball well. He got to his pitch count, which was great," Padres manager Bud Black said of Johnson's outing. "I thought his stuff was fine. I liked his slider today. He threw a really tight slider at times. Fastball had a good angle to it. It was a good mix of pitches. He repeated his delivery. There was a lot to like today about Josh."

The Brewers scored three times in the fifth inning off Padres reliever Burch Smith, as Scooter Gennett had his second run-scoring double of the game.

The Padres got two doubles from Yonder Alonso, who raised his Cactus League average to .333.

Jedd Gyorko also had a double for the Padres and was robbed of extra bases by a nice running catch in deep center field by Logan Schafer in the fourth inning.

Estrada allowed five hits and had three strikeouts. The Padres put a runner on third base with one ot in the fifth inning but he didn't allow a run to score.

Gennett, who is battling Rickie Weeks for the starting second base job, came into the game hitting .125. Bianchi is attempting to retain his backup infield job with the team.

Martin Maldonado had two hits and knocked in a run for the Brewers.
