MLB Network receives most ever Sports Emmy Award nominations at 13

MLB Tonight receives three nominations, including Outstanding Daily Studio Show; Bob Costas, Al Leiter, Harold Reynolds & Tom Verducci all nominated; "A Field of Dreamers" LDS opening segment nominated for three awards, including the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award

MLB Network today received 13 Sports Emmy Award nominations for 2013, the highest number of nominations in its history, giving the network a total of 50 Sports Emmy Award nominations since its launch in 2009. MLB Tonight, the Sports Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Studio Show - Daily for 2012, 2011 and 2010, was once again nominated in the category, in addition to Outstanding Technical Team Studio and Outstanding Post-Produced Graphic Design.

Bob Costas received his second nomination in the Outstanding Sports Personality - Play-by-Play category for his work on MLB Network. Al Leiter, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci each earned nominations in the Outstanding Sports Personality - Studio Analyst category, marking Verducci's first nomination in the category, Leiter's third, and Reynolds' fourth consecutive nomination in the category. Verducci, who won his first Sports Emmy Award last year for Outstanding Sports Personality - Sports Reporter, was nominated in the same category again this year for his work on MLB Network.

MLB Network's 2013 Division Series opening segment "A Field of Dreamers" received nominations in three categories, including the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award, Outstanding Open/Tease and Outstanding Production Design/Art Direction. Actor Ray Liotta narrated the segment, which was filmed at the "Field of Dreams" movie site in Dyersville, Iowa and showed footage of 2013 Postseason contenders Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Clayton Kershaw, Andrew McCutchen, David Ortiz, Yasiel Puig, Justin Verlander and Adam Wainwright on the famous baseball diamond with the same rotoscope technology that was used to create MLB Network's 2012 Emmy Award-winning opening "The Scrapbook."

MLB Network's Intentional Talk with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar received its first Sports Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Graphic Design - Live Event category. MLB Network's 2013 Postseason spot "Here's To Us," honoring the on-field celebrations, dugout rituals, rally cheers and fan reactions from the 2013 MLB season, was nominated in the Outstanding Promotional Announcement - Institutional category.

Since its launch in January 2009, MLB Network has won 12 Sports Emmy Awards out of 37 prior nominations, with ten prior nominations and seven awards for MLB Tonight alone. The 35th annual Sports Emmy Awards will be presented on Tuesday, May 6 in New York City.
