Betts has good visit with concussion specialist

Red Sox outfielder will rejoin team in Detroit, ease into baseball activities

BOSTON -- Red Sox center fielder Mookie Betts spent Thursday at the offices of concussion specialist Mickey Collins in Pittsburgh, and the preliminary reports of that visit were encouraging.

"I haven't got a full report, but he saw Collins in Pittsburgh today [and] the report was good, he's passing the tests he needs to pass," said Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington. "He'll rejoin the team in Detroit and hopefully be much closer to baseball activity."

Betts suffered his concussion when he flipped over the bullpen wall at Fenway Park on July 28.

Once Betts starts to ease back into baseball activities this weekend in Detroit, the Red Sox will get a better sense of when the outfielder will return to the lineup.
