A Song for Mom

Mother's Day should be extended to at least Mother's Week.

There was a song I learned in kindergarten that I will always remember. My classmates and I practiced and practiced, and then we performed a little concert for a group of very special guests - our mothers. The song was called "My Mom." When we finished I remember looking at my mother. She was smiling ear to ear and seemed so proud. I know it wasn't because I was a magnificent singer…I wasn't. It was because I was showing her how much I loved her in a funny little song.

Mother's Day should be extended to Mother's Week at a minimum. Our mothers wear so many hats and are there to love and support us everyday of our lives. They are our doctors and nurses, our teachers and coaches, they are our own personal guardian angels.

My mother introduced me to rock-n-roll. It was my 10th birthday, and I had received a little Radio Shack stereo as a gift. I was so excited to get the gift but the most special part was what my mom added to it. She came into my room with a stack of her own records with a bow wrapped around them. Included in my new collection were The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Animals, The Who and Bob Dylan. I remember thinking, "Man, mom is cool." She still is.

Through the years, everything and anything I've done, my victories and failures, my mom was there with me every step of the way. I am who I am because of my mom. She always says that I will always be her little boy and ya know what, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Our moms are proud of everything we do and everything we are. Let's all be sure to let them know how proud we are of them. They deserve it.
