'Motley Brew' travels in '80s style to KC

KANSAS CITY -- Outfielder Nyjer Morgan gained another alter ego and the Brewers had a little fun on an 80s-themed charter flight from Milwaukee on Monday.

Last year, Morgan, a.k.a. Tony Plush, became Tony Tombstone when the Brewers dressed as cowboys for a flight from Houston. This year, he was a breakdancer in a navy sweatsuit and gold chains.

"Tony Beatbox," Morgan deadpanned.

General manager Doug Melvin was one of three Magnum, P.I.s, with a Detroit Tigers cap, a Hawaiian shirt, his trademark mustache dyed dark brown. Pitchers John Axford, Kameron Loe, Marco Estrada and catcher George Kottaras were a four-man hair band that Loe dubbed, "Motley Brew." PR man John Steinmiller raided the Bradley Center's closet for some vintage Milwaukee Bucks warm-ups.

And left fielder Ryan Braun got the biggest cheer as he boarded the plane after leaving his pants at home for a turn as the Tom Cruise character from Risky Business.

"We're family, we're around each other nine months a year, and being able to do that and have some team camaraderie, it always boosts the morale," Morgan said. "It shows that we're still having fun. We're only four games out, and we're not even playing great baseball, so something is ready to set off. Everything's all right. Nobody's panicking."

Manager Ron Roenicke's wife, Karen, helped her husband and other members of the traveling party with their costumes. Ron wore a mustache and mullet wig.

"I didn't know who the heck that was," Morgan said.

"A lot of them didn't know who I was," Roenicke said.
