Nats-Dodgers twin bill on tap after Tuesday rainout

Zimmermann, Lannan are set to start Wednesday's doubleheader

WASHINGTON -- Tuesday's game between the Nationals and Dodgers has been postponed because of rain. The teams will play a single-admission doubleheader Wednesday at Nationals Park starting at 4:05 p.m. ET.

In Game 1, Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann will get the start, while the Dodgers will have right-hander Aaron Harang on the mound, both of whom were scheduled to start Tuesday. Left-hander John Lannan will be on the hill for Washington in Game 2, while right-hander Josh Beckett takes the mound for Los Angeles.

The Nationals hold a 5 1/2-game lead over the Braves in the National League East.

All tickets for Tuesday's game must be exchanged at the Nationals Park box office for seats of equal or lesser value for Wednesday's doubleheader or any remaining home game during the 2012 regular season, excluding Saturday vs. the Brewers and any potential 2012 postseason tiebreaker home game. Tickets for Wednesday's 7:05 p.m. game will be valid for both games of the doubleheader.

The Nationals Park box office opens Wednesday at 10 a.m. For more information on exchanging tickets purchased through nationals.com or the Nationals telephone charge line, call (888) 632-6287.

With the postponement, the Nationals need an extra starter for Sunday against the Brewers. Zimmermann will not pitch on short rest. Nationals manager Davey Johnson indicated that relievers Craig Stammen or Chien-Ming Wang could get the start.

"I don't want any of my good young pitchers to be brought back on short notice at this point," Johnson said. "I don't think Zim has done it. He's had a little bit of that inflammation [in his shoulder]. ... I think he could do it and have no problem, but it's not something I would do to anyone in the rotation at this point. I'm sure Stras [Stephen Strasburg] would volunteer."
