New father Loney joins Rays in Toronto

TORONTO -- James Loney returned to the Rays and was in Sunday's starting lineup after being away on paternity leave.

The Rays' first baseman arrived with a glow about him and that glow remained when he discussed the birth of he and his wife Nadia's first child, James Jordan.

"It's definitely an amazing feeling," Loney said. "You don't know what to really expect until it happens. It's a feeling like no other."

James Jordan's due date had been July 24. Loney explained that Nadia wanted to give birth naturally, but given the baby's size, the couple chose to have labor induced, which led to Friday's birth.

When asked if the name had any significance, Loney responded: "I know I came up with the name, but she liked it also."

Loney arrived in Toronto Sunday at 2 a.m. ET and said he actually managed to get some sleep in the aftermath of the birth.
