Nolan Arenado, DJ LeMahieu awarded NL Rawlings Gold Glove

Arenado Wins for Second-Straight Season, LeMahieu Takes Home his First Award

DENVER - Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado and second baseman DJ LeMahieu have been named winners of the 2014 Rawlings Gold Glove Award tonight. The announcement was made on ESPN2 during a live, hour-long "Baseball Tonight - The 2014 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Announcement Show presented by Dick's Sporting Goods."

The award is the second for Arenado, who also took home a Gold Glove for his work at third base in his rookie season of 2013. This is the first Gold Glove of LeMahieu's career.

Here are some facts regarding the Rockies and the Rawlings Gold Glove Award:

  • The 2014 award represents the fifth time that multiple Rockies have been awarded a Rawlings Gold Glove in the same season. The other four seasons with double winners include: 2001 and 2002 when Todd Helton (1B) and Larry Walker (OF) both received the award, in 2010 with Carlos Gonzalez (OF) and Troy Tulowitzki (SS), and in 2013 with Nolan Arenado (3B) and Carlos Gonzalez (LF).
  • This is Nolan Arenado's second consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Award. He joins Larry Walker (1997-99, 2001-02), Todd Helton (2001-02), Troy Tulowitzki (2010-11) and Carlos Gonzalez (2012-13) as Rockies who have won consecutive Gold Gloves.
  • Having won the award last year as a rookie, Arenado is now the fifth player to have been awarded a Rawlings Gold Glove in each of their first two seasons: Frank Malzone (3B; 1957-59), Johnny Bench (C; 1968-77), Charles Johnson (C; 1995-98) and Ichiro Suzuki (OF; 2001-10).
  • DJ LeMahieu will be the seventh different Rockie to have won the award (Walker, Neifi Perez, Helton, Gonzalez, Tulowitzki and Arenado).
  • LeMahieu is the first Rockies second baseman to be awarded a Rawlings Gold Glove, fifth by an infielder. He joins Todd Helton (1B; 2001-02, 2004), Troy Tulowitzki (SS; 2010-11), Neifi Perez (SS; 2000) and Nolan Arenado (3B; 2013-14) as Rockies infielders to be awarded a Gold Glove.
  • The Rockies have now had at least one Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner in each of the past four seasons (2010-14), and multiple award winners in back-to-back seasons for just the second time.
  • A complete Rockies listing of Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winners can be found on page 227 of the 2014 Colorado Rockies Information Guide.
