Ryan says discussions about role productive

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Nolan Ryan's future with the Rangers remains unclear after he issued a statement about his situation on Sunday.

Ryan acknowledged that he has been talking about his position in the organization with co-owners Ray Davis and Bob Simpson, but nothing has been resolved.

"Over the last week, Ray Davis, Bob Simpson and I have been in discussion and met in person," Ryan said in the statement. "The conversations have been productive, and we have discussed my role as CEO of the organization. We agreed these discussions will continue as we go forward.

"I am very proud of what the Rangers have accomplished over the last several years, and I believe our preparations for the upcoming season are what is important."

Ryan's future became uncertain 10 days ago, when the Rangers promoted Jon Daniels to president of baseball operations and Rick George to president of business operations. Ryan had been the Rangers' club president since 2008, but those moves left him with the title of chief executive officer.

Ryan would like to remain active in the day-to-day operations of the Rangers if he stays with the club.

Ryan issued the statement at 2 p.m. CT, and he is currently in camp with the Rangers. He arrived at the facility on Sunday morning and spoke briefly with reporters before going upstairs to his office. Ryan said he had "nothing to report" but will speak when there is something to talk about.
