Aoki could be back before end of July

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy estimated Friday that left fielder Nori Aoki, who's recovering from his fractured right fibula, could return from his injury in two weeks.

Aoki recently had the cast removed from his leg, which was hurt when Los Angeles' Carlos Frias hit him with a pitch June 20. Since then, the Giants have resisted issuing a timetable for Aoki's comeback. Bochy explained that by citing the example of right fielder Hunter Pence's second stint on the disabled list. Pence rejoined the lineup this week after a sudden surge in his recovery.

"I'm not going to say [Aoki's possible return date] is a definite," Bochy said. "You saw what we did with Hunter."

Aoki was in contention for the National League's third outfield spot in All-Star Game balloting before he was sidelined. He was batting .317 with a .383 on-base percentage.

• Tim Lincecum (right forearm bruise), Tim Hudson (right shoulder strain) and Jeremy Affeldt (left shoulder strain) tested their respective injuries by throwing off bullpen mounds. Lincecum and Hudson worked the equivalent of three innings apiece, Bochy said.

"I think it's fair to say that Timmy needs a little work," Bochy said about Lincecum. "He's a bit behind."

Bochy added that Affeldt might make an injury rehabilitation start in the Minor Leagues late next week to evaluate his recovery.

• Bochy wished the best for third baseman Casey McGehee, who cleared release waivers and signed with Miami as a free agent.

"Good for him," Bochy said of McGehee, who hit .213 in 49 games for the Giants after they acquired him last December from Miami for two Minor League right-handers. Bochy pointed out that McGehee might feel more comfortable playing for the Marlins, with whom he won 2014 National League Comeback Player of the Year honors.
