Davis wins AL Player of the Week honor

Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.

In seven games last week, Davis led the Majors with a .481 (13-for-27) batting average while leading the AL in hits, total bases (26), slugging percentage (.963) and runs scored. His four homers tied Seattle's Jason Bay for the most in the American League, and his on-base percentage was tied for second.

Davis also had six RBIs, giving him 52 on the year. He is second in the AL in average (.357), first in home runs (20) and second in RBIs.

In the first of his five multihit games last week, Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs in a 6-2 win Monday at Washington. He had his second four-hit game of the year, and his first multihomer game of the year, on Wednesday against the Nats.

In Friday's 7-5 win against the Tigers, Davis singled in the ninth off Detroit closer Jose Valverde and scored on Chris Dickerson's walk-off home run. Davis also homered Sunday to help spark a three-run rally to beat the Tigers in the series rubber match.

Davis was the AL Player of the Week for April 1-7 and was April's AL Player of he Month.

Other noteworthy performances last week included that of Davis' teammate, Jim Johnson, who recorded three saves in three perfect innings.
