Orioles honor Palmer with bronze sculpture

Orioles honor Palmer with bronze sculpture

Legendary Orioles ace Jim Palmer will be honored before Saturday's game at Camden Yards, when a bronze sculpture of the Hall of Fame right-hander is unveiled in a pregame ceremony.

Palmer is the third Oriole to be honored this season as part of the Orioles Legends Celebration Series. The ceremony will begin at 2:15 p.m ET, and gates will open at 2.

A part of all three Orioles championship teams, Palmer spent all of his 19 seasons in Baltimore. While there, he amassed three Cy Young Awards, 268 wins and a lifetime ERA of 2.86. In eight postseasons, Palmer went 8-3 with a 2.61 ERA.

All fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a replica of the sculpture. Palmer is slated to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Baltimore's game against Detroit.

The Orioles have already honored Frank Robinson and Earl Weaver this year and have three remaining ceremonies planned. These ceremonies will be for Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken Jr. and Brooks Robinson, respectively.
