Chen earns first win as O's snap 4-game skid
Lefty strikes out seven, gives up just one run in seven innings vs. Yanks
NEW YORK -- Wei-Yin Chen finally got the win.
The Orioles lefty, who entered the game with the lowest qualifying ERA (2.83) among winless Major League starters, was rewarded for a solid seven-inning outing with his first 'W' of the season in Baltimore's 6-2 victory on Saturday.
Chen held the Yankees to a run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven, helping to snap the O's four-game losing streak.
"Me, of course I'm happy [to get a victory], but what matters the most is we won the game," Chen said through his interpreter. "That's what's important."
Chen has turned in a quality start in four of his last five outings, and he threw 76 of 106 pitches for strikes on Saturday.
"He's had a couple [good starts] like this," Showalter said of Chen. "He was carrying a so-so changeup, a so-so slider, but he had command of the fastball, which really gave him four pitches in all the quadrants."
