Yoon passes physical, signs three-year deal with O's
Baltimore to formally introduce South Korean righty at Tuesday news conference
SARASOTA, Fla. -- After reaching an agreement Thursday amid much anticipation, the Orioles officially announced Monday afternoon that South Korean pitcher Suk-min Yoon has passed his physical and signed a three-year, $5.75 million contract.
The O's will hold a news conference Tuesday to formally introduce Yoon, who has been at the team's complex the past few days. Yoon has been accompanied by agent Tad Hun Yo, who is part of the Boras Corporation, as the two sides hammered out the final details.
The three-year deal is the longest handed out by Baltimore this offseason, and the $5.75 million is the most the organization has spent this offseason.
Yoon did not want to speak publicly about the Orioles until his deal was official -- especially given his premature tweet in an O's hat that went viral several days before the agreement.
Yoon, who pitched in relief due to an injury last season, could be a starter or reliever for the Orioles. The right-hander went 3-6 with a 4.00 ERA and seven saves last season for the Kia Tigers of the Korean Baseball Organization. His best pro season in South Korea was in 2011, when he went 17-5 with a 2.45 ERA. Yoon is listed at six feet and 190 pounds.
