O's reach 200-homer plateau for third straight year

BALTIMORE -- Adam Jones' game-tying homer in the third inning against the Red Sox on Saturday pushed this Orioles team even deeper into the franchise's lore.

The outfielder's two-run shot into the right-center-field seats was the 200th of the season for Baltimore, marking the first time in franchise history the team has hit that many in three consecutive seasons.

The long ball has provided the bulk of the offense for the American League East champions this season. They lead the Majors in homers and are poised to become the first team since 1920 to have a different player lead MLB in homers in consecutive seasons.

Nelson Cruz, who leads baseball with 39 home runs this season, has been the biggest hitter, but Jones and Chris Davis -- the 2013 home run champion -- have provided big blows in bunches, too. Jones' homer was his 26th of the season, tying him with Davis for second on the team.

The O's have seven players with double-digit homers this season, including Steve Pearce, who hit his 19th and 20th on Wednesday, and four more with at least seven. In total, 17 different players have homered for Baltimore this season.
