O's release Delmon to make room for Reimold

When the Orioles designated outfielder Delmon Young for assignment on July 1, they had hoped to be able to trade him. However, they were unable to work out a deal, and Baltimore officially released Young on Thursday to make room for outfielder Nolan Reimold, who was reinstated from the paternity list.

Young, 29, joined the O's before the 2014 season and helped them win the American League East, batting .302/.337/.442 with seven homers in 83 games.

Young couldn't continue his success this year, as he batted .270/.289/.339 with just two homers in 52 games, and he also struggled defensively in the outfield.
