Orioles sign RHP Darren O'Day to four-year contract

The Orioles today announced that they have signed free agent RHP Darren O'Day to a four-year contract. To make room on the 40-man roster, INF Rey Navarro has been designated for assignment.

O'Day, 33, was an American League All-Star selection in 2015, going 6-2 with a 1.52 ERA (11 ER/65.1 IP), six saves, and a career-high 82 strikeouts in 68 games. He led Orioles relievers in appearances, finished second in strikeouts, and third in innings pitched last season. O'Day ranked third among American League relievers in ERA, seventh in strikeouts, and ninth in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (11.30). Since joining the Orioles in 2012, he has gone 23-8 with a 1.92 ERA (56 ER/263.0 IP) and 283 strikeouts in 273 games. In that time, he ranks third among American League relievers in games, and fifth in ERA and holds (78). In his career, O'Day is 31-13 with a 2.31 ERA (114 ER/443.2 IP) and 431 strikeouts in 459 Major League games.

Navarro, 25, batted .276/.276/.448 (8-29) with two doubles, a home run, and three RBI in 10 games for the Orioles in 2015.
