Quentin to head to Arizona at week's end

SAN DIEGO -- Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin will continue his recovery process later this week when he heads to Arizona to get some on-field work at the club's Spring Training facility.

Quentin started the season on the disabled list after injuring his knee making a sliding catch during Spring Training. The bone bruise on Quentin's left knee has kept him sidelined thus far, but has progressed enough to let Quentin take the next step toward returning to the team.

Despite earlier reports that Quentin would head to Arizona on Monday when the club will begin a road trip in Milwaukee, manager Bud Black said the plan was always for Quentin to leave later in the week.

"I think he's going to go on Thursday or Friday," Black said. "He's going to start doing baseball activities over there. He'll go out and practice with that group and do on-the-field drills, batting practice. We have our trainers and therapists over there."

Black added that following some time in Arizona, Quentin will begin a Minor League rehab assignment before rejoining the big league club.

"Probably at some point over there he might even get in some games, maybe DH to get some at-bats there," Black said. "When he goes through that process, then he'll go out on a rehabilitation assignment."
