Minors moves return VanMeter to Fort Wayne

Spangenberg's rehab shifted to Triple-A El Paso

Nine players in the Padres' farm system were on the move Tueday, most noticeably infielders Cory Spangenberg and Josh VanMeter.

The scene of Spangenberg's rehab assignment shifted from Double-A San Antonio to Triple-A El Paso. And Fort Wayne native VanMeter returned home to resume his season with the Padres' low Class A affiliate after going 8-for-11 in a three-game rehab assignment with the Arizona Rookie Padres, less than three months after having surgery to repair a fractured fibula in his left leg.

San Antonio added three players to return its roster to the full 25. Infielder Diego Goris and right-handed starting pitcher Dennis O'Grady were transferred back to the Missions from El Paso, and right-handed reliever was promoted to San Antonio from Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore.

Right-handed reliever Ryan Butler was activated from the seven-day disabled list at San Antonio and transferred to Lake Elsinore, and left-handed starting pitcher Travis Radkewas promoted from Fort Wayne to Lake Elsinore.

Right-handed starting pitcher Pete Kelich joined VanMeter in moving from a rehab assignment to the roster at Fort Wayne. And outfielder Henry Charles was transferred from Fort Wayne to short-season Class A Tri-City.

Spangenberg, VanMeter, Radke, Goris and Butler immediately appeared with their new teams Tuesday night.

Around the farm

Triple-A El Paso (60-56): CHIHUAHUAS 9, Las Vegas 8 (10 innings). LF Alex Dickerson (.310) was 3-for-5 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. CF Travis Jankowski (.425) was 3-for-6 with a steal, a RBI and a run scored. RF Rymer Liriano (.277) was 2-for-4 with a double and his 11th homer and scored two runs. LHP Robbie Erlin (6.13 ERA) allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings. RHP Tayron Guerrero (8.10 ERA) allowed three runs on four walks and a strikeout in one-third of an inning to suffer a blown save. RHP Jerry Sullivan (6-2, 3.78) allowed a hit with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings to get the win.

Double-A San Antonio (50-65): Missions 4, NORTHWEST ARKANSAS 2. Starting RHP Bryan Rodriguez (5-11, 4.27 ERA) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings. LHP Eury De La Rosa (2.13) walked one with two strikeouts in two-thirds of a scoreless inning for his second save. RF Yeison Asencio (.303) was 3-for-5 with a double, a steal, two RBIs and a run scored. Texas League Player of the Week CF Alberth Martinez (.286) was 2-for-5 with a RBI.

Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore (43-71): Bakersfield 11, STORM 1. Radke allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings. Butler (3.00 ERA) allowed five runs on a hit, three walks, two hit batters and a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning. RHP Zech Lemond (5.84) allowed three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings.

Class A Fort Wayne (59-53): TIN CAPS 4, Quad Cities 3 (11 innings). DH VanMeter was 0-for-3 with two walks in his return to Fort Wayne. LF Franchy Cordero (.239) was 2-for-4 and and doubled and scored the winning run on Michael Gettys walk-off single in the 11th. Cordero also walked and stole a base. Starting LHP Thomas Dorminy (3.35 ERA) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings. RHP Yimmi Brasoban (4-3, 2.44) struck out two in a perfect inning to get the win.

Class A Tri-City (28-23): SPOKANE 7, Tri-City 5. C A.J. Kennedy (.263) was 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. OF Justin Pacchioli (.246) hit a two-run homer in four at-bats. Starting RHP Walker Lockett (2.83 ERA) allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings.

Arizona Rookie League Padres (16-24): The Arizona Rookie Padres were off.

Dominican Summer League Padres (27-35): DIAMONDBACKS 12, Padres 0. DH Dayon Olmo (.260) was 2-for-4. Starting RHP Jordis Ramos (0-2, 9.00 ERA) allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in two innings. LHP Eisler Cordova (7.52) allowed three runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings.
