Padres Minor League Report: April 30

Bill Center, longtime sportswriter for U-T San Diego, is an employee of the Padres.

Center fielders are the hot topic in the Padres farm system at the moment.

Travis Jankowski with Double-A San Antonio was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run scored Thursday to extend his hitting streak to 16 straight games. That is the longest hitting streak in the Texas League this season and the second longest in Jankowski's career. The lead-off hitter is 26-for-60 (.433) during his 16-game hitting streak with 10 steals to raise his batting average on the season to .371. He ranks fourth in the Texas League in batting average, ranks second in on-base percentage (.474 with 12 walks) and leads the league in steals (10). Jankowski also made a sensational catch in center.

Jankowski, 23, was the 44th overall pick of the 2012 draft in the supplemental round. And Auston Bousfield was 1-for-2

Bousfield, 21, was the Padres' fifth-round pick last June out of the University of Mississippi. After hitting .301 in his pro debut at short-season Single-A last summer, he skipped low Single-A Fort Wayne.

Bousfield is hitting .282 for the Storm with a .393 on-base percentage. He has four doubles, a triple and a home run with six steals, 15 runs scored and eight RBIs.
