Padres moving spring series to Univ. of San Diego

Regular-season single-game tickets go on sale Saturday at 7:30 a.m. PT

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres announced two revisions to their upcoming exhibition schedule on Tuesday.

The Padres' two-game series against the Indians to end Spring Training has been moved from Petco Park to Fowler Park and Cunningham Field on the campus of the University of San Diego.

The games will take place on March 28 (6:10 p.m. PT) and March 29 (1:10 p.m.). The Padres will open the regular season the following day at Petco Park against the Dodgers at 5 p.m.

"We're thrilled to be able to provide a unique showcase of Major League Baseball in an intimate college setting here in San Diego," Padres president and CEO Mike Dee said in a release. "… We appreciate the support of [USD athletic director] Ky Snyder and the entire USD Athletics Department as well as the Cleveland Indians."

Tickets for the exhibition games will be sold by USD. Padres season-ticket holders and select USD supporters will be given early access to purchase tickets. Pricing and additional details will be announced at a later date.

"We are excited to welcome the Padres to Fowler Park and to showcase our facility to a broader baseball audience," Snyder said. "Fowler Park is a true gem and now, not only will future Major Leaguers have the opportunity to enjoy its confines, but so will today's Major League players."

Fowler Park opened last February. The ballpark is named after Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler and his wife, Alexis, who were the lead donors for the $13.8 million ballpark that was built in 38 weeks.

The team also announced that its previously scheduled game against the Mexico City Red Devils, which was scheduled for March 27, has been canceled.

The Padres opted to cancel the game to give the players a day off after Opening Day was moved from March 31 to the previous day to accommodate an ESPN national television broadcast.

The team also announced that single-game tickets will go on sale to the general public Saturday at 7:30 a.m. PT, in conjunction with FanFest presented by State Farm. The single-game on-sale was previously scheduled for Feb. 19, but was changed due to fan interest. Individual tickets for all 2014 home games, including Opening Night (March 30 vs. the Dodgers) and Opening Day (April 1 vs. the Dodgers), will be available for purchase online at padres.com.
