Prospect Renfroe finding stroke at Double-A

Hunter Renfroe's bat has come alive the past two games at Double-A San Antonio. The right fielder was 3-for-5 Monday night, with a double and three RBIs. The Padres' first-round pick in the 2013 Draft is 7-for-21 over the past four games, with four RBIs. Renfroe is hitting .188 on the season, with 23 strikeouts in 69 at-bats.

The Missions dropped a 8-6 decision to Frisco in San Antonio on Monday Night, even though right-handed starter Colin Rea (1.29 ERA) allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven innings.

Left-handed reliever Brandon Alger (2-1, 7.04 ERA) took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Right-hander Aaron Northcraft, who was moved from Triple-A El Paso to San Antonio earlier Monday, allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings.

Designated hitter Travis Jankowski (.365) was 2-for-4 with a walk for the Missions. Left fielder Yeison Asencio was 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Center fielder Alberth Martinez (.273) was 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs for the 6-11 Missions.

Triple-A El Paso (12-7) also lost at home Monday night, dropping a 5-1 decision to Salt Lake at Southwest University Park.

Poway High graduate Alex Dickerson (.326) was 2-for-4 with his second homer for the Chihuahuas. Third baseman Brett Wallace (.318) was 2-for-4 with a double. Center fielder Jake Goebbert was 2-for-4.

Santana High graduate and right-hander James Needy (2-1, 6.86 ERA) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings to take his first loss.

Right-handed reliever Leonel Campos (0.77 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Left-handed reliever Scott Elbert (5.00 ERA) issued a walk with three strikeouts in two hitless innings.

Earlier Monday, San Diego promoted right-handed reliever Jay Jackson (1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings over six appearances) from San Antonio in a move for Northcraft. The Chihuahuas also active left-handed relievers Frank Garces and Chris Rearick, who were optioned from the Padres over the weekend when right-handed relievers Kevin Quackenbush and Cory Mazzoni were promoted to the Major League team.
