Denorfia progressing with sore right shoulder

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Padres manager Bud Black remained optimistic on Wednesday that outfielder Chris Denorfia would be ready for the first game of the season on Sunday against the Dodgers.

Denorfia hasn't played in Cactus League games since March 18 because of a sore right shoulder.

"I'm progressing," Denorfia said, on his way for treatment.

Black said that Denorfia would play catch on Wednesday and take some swings in the batting cage with intensity.

"He's going to stay back and play in a Minor League game tomorrow and from there we'll make a day to day assessment," Black said. "But he's doing well."
